High-protein diets may not be appropriate for everyone. Before significantly increasing protein intake:
Consult your doctor if you have:
- Kidney disease or reduced kidney function
- Liver disease
- Gout or high uric acid levels
- History of kidney stones
- Certain metabolic disorders
Potential side effects of high-protein diets may include:

- Kidney stress in susceptible individuals
We strongly recommend:
- Getting bloodwork done before and during high-protein eating

- Staying well-hydrated
- Balancing protein with adequate vegetables, healthy fats, and fiber
GLP-1 Medication Users
We provide some content specifically relevant to people using GLP-1 medications (semaglutide, tirzepatide, etc.). However:
This information is NOT:

- Guidance on dosing or medication adjustment
- Diagnosis or treatment of conditions
- A substitute for your prescribing physician’s guidance
This information IS:
- General education about protein needs during weight loss

- Practical cooking guidance for high-protein, lower-volume meals
Always:
- Follow your doctor’s specific dietary recommendations
- Report significant dietary changes to your prescribing physician
- Monitor for side effects and communicate with your healthcare team
- Never adjust medication based on anything you read on our site
Individual Results Vary
We cannot guarantee:
- Specific weight loss results
- Muscle gain outcomes
- Health improvements
- Performance enhancements
- That you’ll like every recipe
What works for one person may not work for another. Factors affecting results include genetics, existing health status, activity level, sleep quality, stress levels, overall diet quality, consistency, and many other variables beyond just protein intake.
The success stories or results we share (including from our own team) are not typical results and should not be expected by everyone.
Nutritional Information Disclaimer
Accuracy Limitations
Our nutritional information is calculated using:
- USDA nutrition database
- Recipe calculation software
- Manufacturer nutrition labels when applicable
- Professional review by our certified nutrition advisor (Jason Reed)
However, actual nutrition content may vary due to:
- Differences in ingredient brands and sources
- Preparation methods and cooking techniques
- Measurement accuracy (yours and ours)
- Natural variation in whole foods (one chicken breast isn’t identical to another)
- Changes in product formulations by manufacturers
- Regional differences in ingredient composition
We aim for accuracy within 5-10% of stated values, but cannot guarantee exact precision.
How We Calculate Macros
Protein, Carbs, and Fat: We calculate macronutrients based on ingredients as listed. If you make substitutions, nutritional content will change.
Calories: We use the standard calculation: (Protein grams Ă— 4) + (Carb grams Ă— 4) + (Fat grams Ă— 9) = Calories
Fiber: When we list net carbs, we subtract fiber from total carbs. However, different countries and sources calculate this differently.
Optional Ingredients: Nutrition facts typically don’t include optional ingredients unless specified. “Garnish with cilantro (optional)” won’t be counted unless we note it.
Serving Sizes: Nutrition is per serving as specified in the recipe. Actual portion sizes you eat may differ.
Not Personalized Nutrition Planning
The macros and calories we provide are general calculations, not personalized meal plans. Your specific needs depend on:
- Age, sex, height, weight
- Activity level and exercise routine
- Health goals (weight loss, maintenance, muscle gain)
- Metabolic health
- Genetics and body composition
For personalized macro targets, work with:
- Registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN)
- Certified nutrition coach
- Healthcare provider familiar with sports nutrition
Food Safety Disclaimer
Your Responsibility
You are responsible for food safety in your own kitchen. This includes:
Proper food handling:
- Washing hands, utensils, and surfaces
- Preventing cross-contamination between raw and cooked foods
- Washing fruits and vegetables
- Storing foods at appropriate temperatures
- Following “use by” dates on perishable ingredients
Safe cooking temperatures: We provide general cooking guidance, but you should verify internal temperatures with a food thermometer:
- Chicken: 165°F (74°C)
- Ground meats: 160°F (71°C)
- Beef, pork, lamb (whole cuts): 145°F (63°C) plus rest time
- Fish: 145°F (63°C)
- Eggs: 160°F (71°C)
Safe storage:
- Refrigerate perishable foods within 2 hours (1 hour if temperature is above 90°F)
- Use leftovers within 3-4 days or freeze
- Label and date meal prep containers
- Thaw frozen foods safely (in refrigerator, not on counter)
If you’re unsure about food safety, consult FDA guidelines at foodsafety.gov or your local health department.
Allergen Disclaimer
Critical: We cannot guarantee recipes are safe for people with food allergies.
While we try to identify common allergens (dairy, eggs, nuts, gluten, soy, shellfish, fish, sesame), we cannot:
- Guarantee complete allergen information for all ingredients
- Account for cross-contamination in our test kitchens
- Monitor changes in ingredient formulations by manufacturers
- Know about “may contain” warnings on every packaged ingredient
- Account for cross-contact in your own kitchen
If you have food allergies:
- Always read ingredient labels yourself
- Contact manufacturers about potential cross-contamination
- Never rely solely on our allergen identifications
- Keep emergency medication (EpiPen) accessible
- Consult with an allergist before trying new foods
Common hidden allergens:
- Gluten in soy sauce, seasonings, processed meats
- Dairy in processed foods, protein powders, “non-dairy” products
- Eggs in pasta, baked goods, mayo
- Nuts in sauces, cross-contaminated products
- Soy in vegetable oil, protein products, processed foods
Special Dietary Needs
We provide some recipes marked as:
- High-protein
- Lower-carb
- Gluten-free
- Dairy-free
- Vegetarian
These labels are based on ingredients used, but:
- “Gluten-free” means no gluten-containing ingredients, but cross-contamination is still possible
- “Dairy-free” may still include products made in facilities that process dairy
- We’re not testing for trace amounts of allergens
- Manufacturing practices change
For serious dietary restrictions or allergies, verify every ingredient independently.
Recipe Results Disclaimer
Results May Vary
We test every recipe multiple times in various kitchens with different equipment. However, we cannot guarantee perfect results in your kitchen because of variables including:
Equipment differences:
- Oven temperature accuracy (most ovens run 25°F hotter or cooler than set)
- Stovetop heat levels (gas vs. electric, BTU variations)
- Cookware material and quality (nonstick vs. stainless vs. cast iron)
- Appliance differences (blender power, food processor size)
- Altitude (affects cooking times and baking)
Ingredient variations:
- Protein quality and moisture content (chicken breast sizes vary wildly)
- Produce freshness and variety (one brand of tomatoes differs from another)
- Spice freshness and potency (old spices lose flavor)
- Substitutions you make (we can’t test every possible swap)
- Organic vs. conventional (sometimes affects moisture and flavor)
Skill level and technique:
- Knife skills and chopping consistency
- Heat management and timing
- Experience with cooking methods
- Understanding of visual cues vs. strict timing
Environmental factors:
- Humidity affecting baking
- Altitude affecting boiling points and cooking times
- Seasonal ingredient variations
- Water quality (hard vs. soft water)
Testing Process
Our testing standards:
- Every recipe tested minimum 5 times before publication
- Tested by multiple team members
- Often tested by team members’ families or friends
- Updated based on reader feedback
But we cannot test:
- Every possible ingredient substitution
- Every brand of every ingredient
- Every type of cookware and appliance
- Every altitude and climate condition
- Every skill level and technique variation
When Recipes Don’t Work
If a recipe doesn’t turn out:
- Check the obvious:
- Did you follow the recipe exactly as written?
- Were measurements accurate?
- Did you make any substitutions?
- Did you adjust cooking times or temperatures?
- Consider variables:
- Oven temperature accuracy
- Ingredient quality and freshness
- Timing and technique
- Environmental factors
- Contact us:
- Email [email protected] with specific details
- Include what you did, what went wrong, and any photos if possible
- We genuinely want to help troubleshoot and improve recipes
We’ll often update recipes based on feedback, but we can’t provide personalized cooking coaching for every user.
Preparation Time Disclaimer
Stated prep and cook times are estimates based on our testing with experienced home cooks. Your time may vary based on:
- Your cooking experience level
- How fast you chop vegetables
- Whether you’re multitasking
- If you read the recipe thoroughly before starting
- Your kitchen organization and mise en place
- Equipment efficiency (instant pot vs. slow cooker, powerful blender vs. basic)
“20-minute meals” assume:
- You’ve read the recipe first
- Ingredients are prepped as described (“1 cup diced onion” means you’ll need to dice it)
- You’re working at a moderate pace
- One person is cooking
- Basic kitchen skills
If you’re a beginner, add 5-10 minutes to stated times.
If you’re cooking with kids or chatting, add 10-15 minutes.
